LEARN hosts SANOG-17

The seventeenth South Asian Network Operators Group (SANOG) workshops, tutorials and conference was hosted by LEARN at Galadari Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka from Jan 11-18, 2011. This is the third time a SANOG event was held in Sri Lanka, and the second time LEARN hosted SANOG.

The event lasted 8-days, starting with three parallel workshops on IPv6 Advanced Routing, Campus Network Design and Network Management, and DNSSec and Network Forensics. A total of 70 networking professionals from a number of countries in South Asia participated in the workshops.

The workshops were followed by two days of Tutorials and the event ended with the Conference which was held on the 18th. The keynote address of the conference, on the topic "Virtualization and the Internet" was delivered by Mr. Harish Pillay, RedHat Software, Singapore.

Hon. Prof. Tissa Vitharana, Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs along with Mr. Nimal Atukorale, Secretary, Ministry of Science and Telecommunications, Mr. Jayantha Fernando, Director, ICT Agency of Sri Lanka, Mr. Harsha Wijewardena, President, Internet Society Sri Lanka Chapter, Prof. Gihan Dias, LK Domain Registry, Gaurab Raj Upadhaya, SANOG Chair, and Dr. Nimal Ratnayake, CEO/CTO, LEARN handed over the certificates of completion to the workshop participants.

The event was sponsored by a number of organizations worldwide, including Internet Society, Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC), Cisco, Google, Sri Lanka Telecom, Netnod and Packet Clearing House (PCH).
